SEND -Special Educational Needs & Disabilities
Ofsted report – November 2021
- Staff have high expectations of pupils, including disadvantaged pupils and those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND).
- Staff make sure those pupils with SEND have suitable resources and are skillfully supported.
At Our Lady of Perpetual Help school we recognise that all children with SEND have a right to be educated therefore, ability plays no part in the selection criteria and children’s needs and abilities are not considered negatively when determining admission.

SEND Definition
A child or young person has SEND if they have a learning difficulty or disability which calls for special educational provision to be made for him or her.
They have a learning difficulty or disability if they have:
- A significantly greater difficulty in learning than the majority of others of the same age, or
- A disability which prevents or hinders him or her from making use of facilities of a kind generally provided for others of the same age in mainstream schools.
Special educational provision is educational or training provision that is additional to, or different from, that made generally for other children or young people of the same age by mainstream schools.
The SEND Code of Practice (2014) recognise 4 broad categories of SEND:
- Communication and Interaction
- Cognition and learning
- Social, Emotional and Mental Health
- Sensory and Physical
